Wilkinson gets leader he wanted

Lincoln United manager Sam Wilkinson believes he's signed another leader in Phil Watt for the upcoming EVO-STIK League season.

Wilkinson, pictured signing the former Lincoln City defender at Ashby Avenue on Friday, told fans he was "thrilled" to snap up the 29-year-old from EVO-STIK League South rivals Belper Town on a one year contract as he sets his sights on another season of cup runs and promotion at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

After kicking off his career at Rotherham Town and making his Imps debut in 2007, Watt went on to spend three years at Corby Town followed by stints at Grantham Town, Boston United and Coalville Town.

In a statement hailing Watt as a "leader with experience", Wilkinson said: “We’ve now got that man. He's a fantastic signing for Lincoln United and his capture once again demonstrates a real statement of intent from the club to improve the current squad.

“He's an old fashioned centre half who is one of the best in the league. He leads by example on and off the pitch. He will add to an already promising squad of players, who are very hungry to succeed.”
