Yellows sign Chris Holroyd from Stalybridge Celtic

Warrington Town have announced the signing of Chris Holroyd from Stalybridge Celtic.

Holroyd, 33, played alongside Paul Carden and Mark Beesley at Cambridge United more than a decade ago, while is also a former team-mate of Jack Mackreth from their time at Macclesfield Town.

His other former clubs include Chester City, Brighton, Rotherham United, Preston North End, Wrexham and Chorley.

Manager Carden said: “He’ll give us a different dimension that we haven’t got as a forward.

“Jordan’s (Buckley) had a couple of niggly injuries which are persistent, so we’ve given him a programme to work to that will allow him to play more games for us. We need to get him right so he’s not playing two or three games then missing two or three.

“With Chrissy here now, we can take a bit of the load off Josh Amis. I didn’t want to get caught in a situation we had last year where we only had one striker for too long a spell.

“I think Chris’s experience will give us good options.”

Amis has played every minute of the league campaign so far, scoring two goals in four games, while Buckley’s only start came in the FA Cup game against South Shields.

Holroyd will go straight in to contention for this Saturday’s trip to Mickleover FC, the Yellows’ first away game since the opening day win at Basford United.

Meanwhile, left-back Tom Warren has joined Northern Premier League S/East Division side Spalding United on a three-month loan deal.

He played 90 minutes in their 1-0 defeat to Loughborough Dynamo last Tuesday, though their game against Market Drayton Town at the weekend was postponed.

The former Everton youngster will continue to train with Carden’s side during the spell with a team that is aiming for promotion to the NPL Premier Division.
