New loan addition for Mossley

Highly-rated Wigan Athletic midfielder Kai Payne has joined Mossley on a month-long loan.

The teenager started his footballing career in the youth setup at Liverpool FC before moving to Wigan Athletic at the age of 13.

Payne also signed a professional contract with the Latics last year.

He will go straight into contention for this weekend’s clash at Prescot Cables as the Lilywhites look to close the current four-point gap to the play-off places.

On securing the loan move, manager David Fish said: “We’ve needed new faces for a couple of weeks, and when Wigan made me aware Kai was available for loan I was keen to bring him in.

“He captains their U18s and is an athletic, confident box-to-box player who can also play centre-back.

“He trained with us this evening and he looked right at home, very comfortable on the ball, a good passing range and positional sense.

“He’ll provide a different option for us and I’m looking forward to him getting started.”
