1874 Northwich joint-managers depart

1874 Northwich have confirmed the departure of joint-managers Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison after six years in charge.

The duo have overseen just under 300 games since being appointed to their current roles in March 2017. However, after what the club describe as an "open and amicable discussion with members of the Board", they have decided to step down.

The pair leave with the club 18th in the Pitching In NPL West Division, two points above the relegation zone. The Greens have only managed four league wins from their opening 13 matches, losing seven times.

Senior payers Matt Woolley and Mark Jones will oversee training and take charge of Saturday's home game against Bootle while the search for a new manager begins.

In 2019/20, Bo0wyer and Goodison secured promotion to Step 4, courtesy of their superior playing record after topping the NWCFL prior to the season being cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

They also secured back-to-back Macron Cup titles in 2019 and 2020, and famously went within one game of Wembley after progressing to the FA Vase semi-finals during a gruelling 2017/18 season.

Paying tribute to their outgoing joint-managers, a club statement read: "Loyalty can be in short supply in the football world, but there is no doubting Paul and Wayne’s unswerving dedication and loyalty to 1874 Northwich.

"They understood and fully immersed themselves into the ethos of our club, which is an important principle for all 1874 members and supporters.

"For their hard work; for the long hours they gave; for the way in which they put the best interests of 1874 at the heart of everything; for the memorable times; for their guidance and support to the players, the backroom staff and to the Board, they receive our unequivocal, heartfelt and grateful thanks and respect.

"Bow and Goodie will always remain ’74 legends and friends, and we know that their time with the club will be looked back on with great fondness and pride."
