AFC Rushden & Diamonds bolster backline

AFC Rushden & Diamonds have signed young defender Jarvis Wilson on dual-registration from United Counties League Premier Division South high-flyers Newport Pagnell Town.

Wilson started his career with Northampton Town as a scholar, before spending a number of seasons at Step 3 level with St Ives Town.

In recent years, he has featured regularly for Daventry Town, before re-joining his former manager Arron Parkinson at Newport Pagnell Town in the summer of 2023.

A ball-playing centre half, the 23-year-old is no stranger to Diamonds assistant manager Tom Lorraine, having played together at Daventry.

“I’m a big fan of Jarvis," Lorraine said.

"He’s good on the ball and suits the way we want to play, which is important. Despite being relatively young, he’s experienced at this level and above, and he brings a level of physicality that we’re looking for.

"He’s strong, good in the air and plays on the edge, but importantly he brings a lot of quality and I’m confident he’ll be a big asset moving forward.”

Wilson enjoyed a goal-scoring debut for Diamonds on Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough to prevent them from falling to a 2-1 defeat at home to Walsall Wood in the Pitching In NPL Midlands Division.
