Another Spooner back at Hyde

Callum Spooner went straight in to the Hyde United side as his dad’s first signing since returning as manager.

Nick Spooner returned to take charge of the Tigers recently, succeeding Michael Clegg, and has brought midfielder Callum back to the club following a spell at Ashton, who confirmed his departure last week.

Callum started for Hyde in the 1-0 defeat at Ilkeston over the weekend.

He said: "It's good to be back, I'm here to help the team progress.

"I must say a big thank you to everyone at Ashton United, especially Steve Cunningham, who didn't stand in my way coming back here.”

The game at Ilkeston was Spooner’s 134th appearance for the club, having previously spent four seasons at Hyde and then moving on to Bury.

This season, he had made 12 starts for Ashton.

Ashton manager Steve Cunningham said: “I am gutted to be losing a player of Callum's ability and character.

“He is a great lad and I understand his reasons for wishing to move on.

“The respect I have for Callum is evident in the fact that on occasions I have handed the captains armband over to him

“Everyone at the club wishes Callum all the very best in his career moving forward.”

Ashton signed young midfielder Harry Leigh on loan from Bolton, as well as forward Billy Whaite from Blackpool ahead of the weekend.

Meanwhile, Hyde have confirmed that Yann Songo’o has gone on a month’s loan to NPL East Division side Bradford (Park Avenue).
