Ashington confirm interim manager appointment as Gray departs

Ashington have parted company with manager Nick Gray by mutual agreement.

Gray took charge in October 2024 and guided the club to safety in the NPL East Division last season, finishing 16th.

A club statement said: “Following discussions between Nick Gray and Ashington Football Club, all parties have mutually agreed that, in the best interests of the club and its future progression, now is the right time for a change in management.

“The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Nick and Liam McIvor who will also leave his role, for all their efforts and commitment during their time at the club and wishes them every success in the future.”

Marc Ellison and Karl Ross will take charge of the team on an interim basis, while the club consider its options moving forward, starting with Saturday’s trip to Blyth Town.

The interim management team made their first signing on Friday, bringing in Gibraltar international midfielder Jeremy Perera following his release from Blyth Spartans.

In that signing announcement, Ashington confirmed that the interim management team had been granted full autonomy to strengthen the squad during the transitional period.
