Avro stalwart appointed new manager

Avro have confirmed that Grant Shenton will take up the role of first team manager next season.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper has been with the Oldham-based outfit since July 2022, after a storied non-league career with clubs such as FC United of Manchester, Stalybridge Celtic, Trafford, Chester and Buxton.

Since arriving at the club, Shenton has made nearly 150 appearances, helping them secure promotion to Step 4 in 2023.

He will now take up the reins, almost three weeks since the departure of former joint-managers David Birch and Michael Norton.

In a statement announcing Shenton's appointment, an Avro spokesperson said: "We’re delighted to announce Grant Shenton as our new first team manager.

"After a thorough process with some top-quality applicants, Grant stood out as the perfect fit to lead the club into the next chapter.

"He’s been part of the Avro family for years, with nearly 150 appearances, a captain’s armband, and a massive influence both on and off the pitch.

"Grant knows exactly what Avro’s all about. He lives and breathes the club, and we know he’ll bring the same passion, professionalism and drive into his new role.

“He’ll be putting together his backroom team over the next few weeks. The hard work starts now as we look ahead to next season and the Fenix Trophy.”
