Burke and Rodwell-Grant part of Yellows’ double swoop
Warrington Town have confirmed their latest signings, in the form of full-back Luke Burke and forward Joe Rodwell-Grant.
Having come through the academy at Wigan Athletic, where he made five appearances in the Championship, 28-year-old Burke has enjoyed spells at AFC Fylde and Barrow in the National League and most recently at Ashton United, where he spent three seasons.
After confirming Burke as his eighth summer signing, manager Paul Carden said: “He’s a good age, a good leader, and will fit really well into what we’re trying to do.”
“He’s a proper player, and when the fans see him on the pitch, they’ll hear him on the pitch because he’s very, very vocal. He’s an organiser, and that’s something you want in the team.
"He’s hungry to do well - he had a bit of a disappointing finish at Ashton with an injury, but their loss is our gain, and that’s the way we’ve approached it”, Carden added.
As for Rodwell-Grant, 23, he is a familiar face to fans at Cantilever Park, having played for them last season and in the National League North.
A product of the Preston North End academy, Rodwell-Grant’s impressive rising career has also seen him feature for Wigan Athletic and Curzon Ashton since his professional debut in 2021.
Ahead of another stint in Warrington Town colours, the young winger spoke about his motivations to return.
“The lads have been great with me, Cards [Paul Carden] has been great with me- he’s shown his trust in me”, Rodwell-Grant said.
“That’s one of the main reasons I decided to come back.
“I’ve had a lot of love from the fans, and it’s been good to see”, he added.
