Bury provide positive update on midfielder after health scare

Bury midfielder Louis White has been discharged from hospital after a health scare on the opening weekend of the season.

White, who joined the Shakers back in March, featured in the club's 0-0 draw at Redcar Athletic on the opening day of the season but was withdrawn midway through the second half.

On the coach home after the game, Bury boss Anthony Johnson has revealed that White had an abnormally high heart rate, and he was subsequently taken to hospital for further testing.

Speaking about the situation after Tuesday's 3-2 victory over Curzon Ashton, Johnson said: "He went to the hospital, they kept him in and did tests, and news came back that it was inflammation of the heart muscle.

"The irony being that the week before, we played Radcliffe in a memorial trophy because of [former Radcliffe chairman] Paul Hilton's passing through a heart attack.

"It was scary, I'll be honest with you. We've spoken to Louis every day, and he's just got to recover."

The club say that White is expected to be away from football for up to two months while he focuses fully on his recovery.

"Football and life takes a back seat when things like that happen," Johnson added.

"We're just devastated for the lad. The most important thing is that he's out of hospital and recovering at home with his family.

"From a football perspective, it's something that we don't even think about or talk about.

"I'm sure he'll be down soon - he wanted to come and watch [on Tuesday night] but I told him off!

“He's a brilliant lad, and what a signing he's been for us. I'm absolutely gutted for him, but at the same time that the news that's come out is that he is in a good place.”
