Carl Jarrett hails flying Redcar start
Redcar Athletic manager Carl Jarrett heaped praise on his side after a 2-0 win at local rivals Stockton Town on Bank Holiday Monday saw them end August third in the NPL Premier Division table.
Second-half goals from substitute Curtis Round and number 10 Oscar Fletcher at the MAP Group UK Stadium gave them their fifth win of the campaign.
Only Cleethorpes Town and fellow promoted side Avro, both a point above, separate them from top spot.
“Everyone coming off the bench has been doing really well,” Jarrett said.
“It shows the strength we’ve got in this squad to change things around and maybe bring four or five players on to change the game.
“It’s been like that for the past four or five games, which is brilliant to see.”
It has also been a superb start for veteran striker Adam Boyes, whose six goals have been crucial to the Steelmen’s growing momentum at Step 3.
Following victory here and Cleethorpes’ defeat at Curzon Ashton to start the August bank holiday weekend, the Steelmen remain the only unbeaten side in the league - an impressive introduction given the fixture congestion in August.
“I’ll be glad to get rid of midweek [games] this month, to give the lads a bit of rest,” Jarrett admitted.
“Every club is the same, it’s been a hard month. Eight games is quite hard with any squad.
“I’m just quite lucky that I haven’t hit any injuries or suspensions early doors. We’ve just got to keep ourselves ticking over, making sure the lads take care of themselves, rest easy and go ahead on Thursday at training ahead of Saturday.”
