Dream start for new Heaton Stannington boss

New Heaton Stannington manager Andy McBride got off to a dream start with a 4-1 win away at Pontefract Collieries.

The club confirmed last week that McBride would step up after five years as assistant manager, following the recent departure of Dean Nicholson.

Gavin Fell has joined as assistant manager and Jamie Tunstall has returned to the club as first team coach.

A club statement said: “Andy knows our football club inside out. Having been a huge part of the journey over the past five years, he understands our identity, ambitions and standards. His knowledge of the Club and the squad makes him ideally placed to lead us, and he has the Board’s full backing and support as we begin this new chapter.

“(Gavin’s) knowledge, coaching and player-development experience, together with his understanding of the local football scene, will be valuable additions to our management team.”

They oversaw a 4-1 win in the NPL East Division on Saturday, where the hosts were reduced to 10 men after just four minutes.

Cameron Gascoigne scored a first half brace and Sad Djalo and Dale Pearson added further goals after the break to move Heaton Stannington up to 10th in the table, just two points off the play-off places.
