Ex-Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Paddy Kenny takes on role at NPL club

Former Premier League and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has been appointed as the new goalkeeping coach of Matlock Town.
Kenny spent much of his playing career in the Premier League and Football League, featuring over 600 times at senior level for Bury, Queens Park Rangers, Leeds United and most notably Sheffield United.
During his time at the Blades, Kenny featured over 300 times and was part of the side that earned promotion to the Premier League during the 2005/06 season.
Whilst at QPR, Kenny played in their famous game against Manchester City on the final day of the 2011/12 season which saw Sergio Aguero score a dramatic late winner at the Etihad Stadium to earn City the Premier League title, with results elsewhere also proving enough for QPR to avoid relegation.
Kenny, who started his career in non-league with Ovenden West Riding before a spell at Bradford (Park Avenue), is no stranger to Matlock's current coaching staff.
Gladiators assistant Ryan Cresswell came through the Sheffield United academy ranks at the same time as Kenny was at the club, while he also played many times against current manager Adam Clayton.
Kenny and Cresswell also crossed paths later in his career at Northampton Town.
Discussing the role, Kenny, who was capped seven times by the Republic of Ireland national team, told talkSPORT: "Basically, I've known Ryan Cresswell since my Sheffield United days. He was coming through as a kid.
"When I was a goalkeeping coach, actually at Northampton [Town], he was there then, and he's assistant manager.
"I've played against Adam Clayton plenty of times over the years, and obviously, I've known him from playing against him.
"I just got the phone call last week asking if I'd be interested in going in and making it a three-ball between us and going in and helping goalkeepers out.
"So, it's something I'm really looking forward to now as well."
Matlock are currently second in the NPL East Division, 10 points adrift of runaway leaders Redcar Athletic.
They are next in action on Tuesday night against Bridlington Town, who are currently six points clear of the relegation zone.
