Experienced Tonks returns to Stafford Rangers
Stafford Rangers have announced the signing of central midfielder Tom Tonks on a one-year deal.
The 34-year-old arrives back at the Stan Robinson Stadium following an almost three-year spell with Tamworth at Steps 1 and 2.
There he played a key role in the Lambs being promoted, while also gaining recognition for his impressive performances in Tamworth’s run to the FA Cup third round in 2024/25.
Having made 93 appearances (24 goals) in his last spell with the NPL West side, Tonks has also represented the likes of Solihull Motors, Stourbridge and Halesowen Town.
During an interview with the club’s media, Tonks was full of excitement ahead of his return.
“It brings back a lot of good memories, I had some good times here”, he said.
“Deaks [manager Graham Deakin] sold it very well. He’s a big part of me returning.
“I’ve known him for years, and he wants to take the club back to Step 3”, he added.
Deakin also commented on Tonks’ return and said: “ I’m really chuffed to get Tonksy through the door.”
“It was about finding the right profile of player, and did I think it would happen? Three to four weeks ago, no.
“Personally though I have worked really hard on this deal, and I have known Tonksy a long time, so to get it over the line I am absolutely delighted.”
