FA Cup round-up | Five NPL sides in first round draw as Diamonds make history and Guiseley advance

There will be at least two NPL representatives in the FA Cup first round proper, with the potential of a further three joining them.

One of the biggest shocks of fourth round qualifying saw AFC Rushden & Diamonds defeat National League North side Morecambe 2-1.

First-half goals from James Clifton and Matty Warburton helped Diamonds reach the first round proper for the first time in the club's history.

Joe Garner halved the deficit for Morecambe, but they couldn't find an equaliser against NPL Midlands Division opposition.

Also joining Diamonds in the first round proper are Guiseley, who eased past Leiston 3-0 to advance.

A dominant first-half display saw the Lions take control, thanks to goals from Elliot Owen, Jordan Thewlis and Jack Emmett.

Ian Richards' side are one of the NPL's in-form teams at present, with eight wins in their last nine games, and they have also kept four successive clean sheets in all competitions.

Saturday's victory means Guiseley have now reached the FA Cup first round 11 times in their 117-year history.

Bury, FC United of Manchester and Stafford Rangers will also be in the draw for the next round after holding highest-tier opposition to a draw.

In front of the BBC cameras, Bury came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with Harrogate Town.

In front of nearly 5,000 fans at Salford Van Hire Gigg Lane, Kai Evans scored the Shakers' equaliser to earn a replay against the National League high-flyers.

Elsewhere, a mouth-watering battle between two Greater Manchester outfits ended goalless as FC United managed to earn a home replay against National League Altrincham on Tuesday evening.

Stafford Rangers will also go again in midweek at home, after coming from a goal down to hold Gateshead to a 1-1 draw.

The National League side took the lead inside two minutes but were pegged back less than five minutes later, Jack Birch the scorer for Stafford.

The only NPL representative to taste defeat in fourth round qualifying were Atherton Collieries, who were heavily beaten 5-0 at AFC Fylde.

A Cedric Main hat-trick, plus further goals from Luca Thomas and Luke McCormick, secured Fylde's safe passage into the next round.

The draw for the first round proper will be made at around 6:30pm on Monday. It will be shown live on TNT Sports 1, HBO Max, and on the TNT Sports YouTube channel.
