FA Cup round-up | NPL sides begin road to Wembley in extra preliminary round
The FA Cup returned over the weekend, with the majority of Step 4 Northern Premier League sides in extra preliminary round action.
A total of 26 NPL representatives secured safe passage to the next stage of the competition, while 11 will need to advance past midweek replays if they're to reach the preliminary round.
Unfortunately, eight others were knocked out of the competition.
There were just five ties which pitted two NPL sides against each other.
Grantham Town were beaten 2-0 at home by Lincoln United, and it was a similar story for Sutton Coldfield Town as they fell 3-1 at home to Coventry United.
Wythenshawe had no such problems in their extra preliminary round tie, defeating NPL West Division side Padiham 2-0 at Hollyhedge Park.
Bourne Town were another who defeated fellow NPL opposition, overcoming Grimsby Borough 3-0 away from home in convincing fashion.
Silsden and Mossley will have to go again on Tuesday night, however, after they played out a thrilling 3-3 draw over the weekend.
All advancing NPL sides will be joined in the preliminary round by the small cohort of Step 4 clubs not involved in the extra preliminary round.
The next round of the competition will take place on the weekend of Saturday 22 August.
