FC United strengthen midfield as Mark Beesley reunited with familiar face
FC United of Manchester have confirmed the signing of veteran midfielder Jay Harris from Runcorn Linnets, reuniting the player with former boss Mark Beesley at Broadhurst Park.
Harris joins the Reds with a wealth of experience across the professional and non-league football pyramid.
The 39-year-old, who began his career in the Everton academy system, has enjoyed fruitful spells with Accrington Stanley, Chester City, Tranmere Rovers and Wrexham.
Across five years at Warrington Town, which ended in the summer, Harris worked closely with Beesley in his role as both assistant manager and manager.
The pair were able to clinch a historic promotion to the National League North for the Yellows, defeating Bamber Bridge in the 2022/23 NPL Premier Division play-off final.
Alongside Dan Atherton, Bohan Dixon, Matt Grivosti and Matty McDonald, Harris was one of only five players picked in Beesley’s first and last Warrington Town XI's.
Beesley’s resignation in September 2024 ended his tenure as Yellows boss. Soon after, he took charge of FC United following the departure of Neil Reynolds after just under six years in charge.
A surprisingly poor start to the campaign leaves the Reds bottom of the division, without a win, at the time of Harris’ arrival.
He won't have to wait long to be reunited with former side Warrington, who visit Broadhust Park in the league on Saturday 12 September.
