Forward Willoughby becomes Ashton’s latest summer signing
Experienced striker Kurt Willoughby has been unveiled as Ashton United’s latest summer signing.
In what is proving to be a blockbuster window for the Greater Manchester outfit, the Robins have swooped for a forward who brings real experience of playing at a higher level, having previously represented the likes of AFC Fylde, York City, Chester and Kidderminster Harriers.
The 28-year-old Fleetwood Town academy product joins Steve Cunningham’s side from Buxton, having left the National League North side at the end of last season.
“This is a special signing and one I have been chasing for years,” Cunningham said.
"Kurt is a fantastic goalscorer and has proven that at some fantastic clubs, but he has had a spell over the last two seasons where he hasn’t really played as much as he would want.
"We wanted to create an exciting attacking team this year. With Justin Johnson and now the signing of Kurt, I am confident we will have two players enjoying doing what they do best, and giving us the best chance to win football matches."
Willoughby becomes the latest in a string of exciting new signings for the club.
In recent days, the Robins have announced the arrival of goalkeeper Tommy Taylor from Worksop Town, while defender John Lufudu has made a return to his former club and ex-Macclesfield winger Justin Johnson has also completed a move to Hurst Cross.
The Robins will be looking to build on a 10th-place finish in the Northern Premier League last season, having finished 10 points adrift of the play-offs.
