Golden Boot winner one of three players to leave Hebburn Town

Hebburn Town have announced top scorer Gary Martin as one of three players to leave the club following the conclusion of their title-winning season.

Experienced frontman Martin arrived at the Hornets from Bishop Auckland last summer and went on to score a league-high 26 goals in the NPL Premier Division - 10 more than his nearest challenger.

Having come through the ranks at Middlesbrough before moving abroad, Martin notably spent a number of seasons in Iceland, winning silverware in the top flight in 2013 with KR Reykjavik and also lifting the Icelandic Cup and Super Cup.

The 35-year-old has also played in Hungary, Norway and Belgium during an impressive 16-year career.

Hebburn, who were crowned champions on the final day, have also released Olly Martin and Arron Thompson.

Martin wrote his name into the Hornets history books by coming off the bench to score the winner in the 2020 FA Vase final at Wembley.

He had been with the club since 2019, while Thompson arrived from West Auckland Town in 2022.
