Hebburn Town sign midfielder after South Shields exit

Hebburn Town have announced the signing of vastly experienced midfielder Robert Briggs.

Briggs was formerly of South Shields, spending 10 years there as a player. He scored 92 goals in 457 games for Shields, earning club legend status.

During Briggs' time at the club, which came to an end earlier this month, he helped them to four promotions and seven pieces of silverware, including a famous FA Vase triumph at Wembley back in 2017.

Named club captain on two separate occasions, Briggs has represented Shields in five different divisions, playing a starring role in their rise up the non-league pyramid.

He remains their only player to play and score for Shields in five different leagues.

On the move, Briggs said: "It’s exciting. It’s a new chapter, and something I’m looking forward to."

Boss Daniel Moore said: “[I'm] chuffed to bits.

“I’ve always been a massive admirer of him. It’s an excellent signing for the football club."

The 33-year-old made his Hebburn debut on Saturday, earning an assist in their dramatic 3-3 draw at home to Leek Town.

Hebburn find themselves 14th in the table, four points adrift of the play-offs.
