Irwin bids Linnets farewell
Runcorn Linnets have announced that midfielder Ste Irwin has left the club to pursue an opportunity elsewhere.
The 35-year-old, formerly of Marine, Warrington Rylands and Widnes, quickly became a fan favourite following his arrival at the club from Vauxhall Motors back in January.
Irwin made his final Linnets appearance in their NPL West Division play-off semi-final defeat to Stalybridge Celtic back in April.
Despite nine signings coming into the club this summer, manager Michael Ellison has hinted that more is to come, with a return to pre-season on the horizon.
A number of key players have left the club during the off-season and, as Ellison prepares for his first full season back in charge at the APEC Taxis Stadium, he insists there is still plenty of room to strengthen.
"I still feel we need two or three [more] in important areas," Ellison said.
"We're working on them and we're on the phone every day. I just feel it will be near the season. We lost out on a couple of lads, who went to Step 2 and Step 3.
"When those lads start filtering down towards the start of the season, I think we'll be in the best position to snap them up."
