Lancaster City part ways with manager Chris Willcock

Lancaster City have announced the departure of manager Chris Willcock after just over a year in charge.

Willcock has left his position by mutual consent, with the departure of backroom staff Lincoln Adams and Warren Nolan also confirmed on Monday evening.

He joined the club in January 2024 and led them to a ninth-place finish last season - their highest in the English football pyramid since 2007.

However, the Dolly Blues have struggled at times during his first full season in charge, and Willcock leaves with the club 14th in the table, five points above the relegation zone.

They had lost four of his final five games in charge, the last of which saw Hyde United run out 1-0 winners against them last weekend.

In a statement announcing the departure, Lancaster paid tribute to outgoing boss Willcock, saying: "The club would like to place on record its thanks to Chris, Lincoln and Warren for their hard work and dedication during their time with us, and we wish him all the best for the future.

"The process of identifying a new manager is underway, and further updates will be provided in due course.

“We ask that everyone continues to show their support for the team as we move forward in this transitional period.”

Lancaster play five of the bottom six in their remaining fixtures, with their next game coming away at Basford United on March 8.
