Lancaster welcome new midfield duo
Lancaster City have announced the signings of Callum Leigh and Matty Tweedley ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Leigh, 24, arrives at the Giant Axe from Leek Town, where he made 17 appearances.
A Rochdale academy product, the midfielder has featured for the likes of The New Saints, Mossley, Bamber Bridge and Buxton.
During his time at the Bucks in the 2024/25 season, he was loaned back to Irongate, but suffered a season-ending ACL and MCL injury in January 2025.
On the signing of Leigh, Lancaster City boss Jimmy Marshall said: "[I'm] delighted to get Callum on board, all supporters will know that we've got a couple of holes in the midfield that we've been looking to fill all summer.
"He did really well at Bamber Bridge and got a move to Buxton, he's managed to come back from a bad injury this season at Leek.
"He's got a great passing range on him, scores foals from distance and not afraid to pick up the ball.
“He's got good energy about him and we think that he's going to bring something really good and positive to the team.”
The Dolly Blues have bolstered their midfield pack further with the addition of Matty Tweedley.
The 22-year-old returns to the Giant Axe for a second spell after featuring on loan for the club from Bolton Wanderers towards the end of the 2022/23 campaign, where he made 15 appearances.
Following his release from Bolton, the young midfielder has played for the likes of Nantwich Town and, most recently, Warrington Town, featuring 24 times for the Yellows upon their return to Step 3 last season.
“[I'm] really pleased to get Tweeds in,” Marshall said on Tweedley's return to the club.
"Like I’ve said, we’ve known this summer that we’ve needed to recruit a couple of midfielders, these lads were right at the top of our list and really pleased to get them on board.
"Another lad who has a good bit of experience at this level of football at Nantwich Town and Warrington Town, and comes from a good schooling at Bolton Wanderers.
"Technically good, tenacious, has good energy, good on the ball and reads the game really well. Has a great range of passing and hopefully will chip in with a few goals.
“He was keen to come to the club, and we think will really push us on this season.”
