Leo Graham returns home to Bury
Bury have completed the signing of midfielder Leo Graham on a two-year deal, joining the club following the expiration of his contract with Wigan Athletic.
The 20-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Shakers last season, quickly establishing himself as a fan favourite.
Despite making only 17 appearances before being recalled by the Latics, Graham was named the club’s Young Player of the Season after bagging five goals and four assists, helping them to the NPL West Division title.
Bury say the youngster was offered a new deal by Wigan, but chose to turn it down in favour of committing his future to the Shakers.
After putting pen to paper, Graham said: “It’s a surreal feeling, I’m delighted. I can’t really put it into words.
“I feel like this is the best place for me to continue my development. I feel like it’s a very special place for me. The fans, the staff, the players - it’s all quite a surreal experience to be honest.
“I came as a boy and left as a man. This club taught me so much about how much three points means, playing for the badge.
“It’s a special place and I’m delighted to be back!”
Manager Anthony Johnson said: “It’s something we’ve been chasing for the last four or five weeks, and it’s one of the reasons we’ve been quiet since signing [James] Melhado, [Anthony] Dudley and [George] Glendon.
“We’ve been trying to keep it under wraps, knowing he was offered a contract by Wigan but knowing his contract was up at the end of June.
“It’s pretty incredible to think that a lad turned down a contract with a League One football club to sign for Bury in the NPL.”
