Matlock Town announce impressive double-signing from neighbours Buxton
Matlock Town have announced the signing of Buxton duo Diego De Girolamo and Tom Elliott.
De Girolamo has ended his seven-year association with the National League North side, his final appearance coming as a substitute during last weekend's play-off eliminator defeat to Chester.
The talented forward first joined the Bucks in July 2018 and went on to make 230 appearances for the club, scoring 120 goals.
De Girolamo spent time on loan at Northern Premier League champions Macclesfield earlier this season, scoring once in eight appearances for the Silkmen.
Paying tribute to De Girolamo, Buxton chairman said: “Diego has played a leading role in the club’s most successful spell over the last eight years, and his name will be permanently etched in Buxton Football Club history.
"He leaves with our very best wishes and amazing memories of some iconic goals.”
Also making the move from Buxton to the Gladiators is midfielder Elliott, who spent five years with his former club.
During that time, he became well-known for a remarkable assist record of one every two games.
The midfielder was a key part of the squad promoted to the National League North, but has opted to leave the club following the end of his contract to join Matlock following their relegation from the Northern Premier League's top division.
Adam Clayton's side will hope to bounce back to Step 3 at the first attempt, and work is already well underway as they look to develop a squad capable of pushing for promotion.
