Michael Ellison resigns as Linnets boss

Michael Ellison has resigned from his role as manager of Runcorn Linnets, the club have confirmed.

Ellison departs following a difficult start to the campaign which has left Linnets 16th in the NPL West Division.

They have won three of their opening 12 games, with Ellison's final match in charge a 3-1 defeat at Nantwich Town on Tuesday night.

"It is with regret and sadness that the Trust Board has this evening received and accepted Michael Ellison's resignation as manager of Runcorn Linnets Football Club after a disappointing start to the season," a club statement said on Wednesday night.

"Unfortunately, things have not worked out as planned for Ello second time around, but we would like to thank him for his efforts and wish him well for the future."

Ellison took charge at the APEC Taxis Stadium at the start of the year following the resignation of Brad Cooke.

In doing so, he returned for his second spell at the club, having overseen just short of 200 games as Linnets boss during his first stint.

Linnets have confirmed that captain Jacques Welsh will take charge on an interim basis while the search begins for Ellison's permanent successor.

They are next on action on Saturday at home to Congleton Town.
