Morpeth Town sign experienced Northern Ireland international
Morpeth Town have announced the signing of experienced Northern Ireland international Shane Ferguson.
The versatile left-sided player makes the move to Craik Park following his recent departure from Derry City, where he played 13 times last season.
Earlier in his career, Ferguson made 23 Premier League appearances for Newcastle United.
He went on to represent Birmingham, Rangers, Rotherham United and most notably Millwall, where he spent six seasons and played more than 200 times before leaving in May 2021.
On the international stage, Ferguson was capped 57 times by Northern Ireland and was part of the squad that famously made the last 16 stage at Euro 2016.
He made his debut for the Highwaymen on Saturday, starting and finishing their 1-1 draw at home to Ashton United.
That result sees them stay in the relegation zone, three points from safety but having played a game less than 18th-placed Prescot Cables.
“Straight away, [he's given] little points on things he's seen coming [into the group],” manager Craig Lynch said.
"He knows the game, he is experienced. He's had a couple of training sessions with us and gone straight in there, [playing] 90 minutes.
"The experience level he brings is different class. He's played international football, hundreds of games in the Championship and league football. It's massive for where we're at now."
