New Basford United manager appointed
Basford United have appointed the experienced Gary Setchell as their new manager.
Setchell takes charge of the Ambers after spending the majority of the last 12 months as director of football at National League North side Harborough Town.
He was previously manager of Corby Town, spending just short of two years in charge of the Steelmen before resigning from his position in December last year amid financial uncertainty at the club.
Setchell will be joined at Greenwich Avenue by long-time assistant Darren Edey.
He brings vast experience from across the non-league game, with Basford describing him as a "highly respected leader in the dugout".
Notably, he enjoyed success at Kings Lynn Town earlier in his managerial career, during a seven-year spell which saw two promotions secured, as well as runs in both the FA Trophy and FA Vase.
Also forming part of Setchell's backroom team will be academy lead Matt Carbon and long-term injured club captain Henri Wilder, who took interim charge for their 1-0 win at Barwell on the opening day of the NPL Midlands Division season.
“I’m delighted to be joining Basford," Setchell said.
"Everything has moved pretty quickly. After meeting with Chris [Munroe, chairman] it became evident that his ambitions aligned with mine.
“It’s a big club with a great structure and a first team that was close to getting promoted last season.
"After a tough week or so for the club, Matt, Henri and all the players did a great job on Saturday, and I’m looking forward to getting started."
Setchell's appointment comes after the club were rocked by the resignation of Martin Carruthers and Saul Deeney, just days before the start of the new season.
Their departure was confirmed last Tuesday, with the club describing the timing as "particularly troubling".
However, they have acted decisively to bring in Setchell, whose first game in charge will be away at Rugby Borough on Wednesday night.
