NPL round-up | Cleethorpes return top, Warrington duo into play-off spots and Quorn march on
The latest weekend fixtures in the NPL Premier Division more than delivered, with Redcar Athletic's time at the top of the division coming to an end.
The Steelmen fell to a 4-2 defeat at Hyde United, who ended their run of five league games without a win in perfect fashion.
Goals from Antoine Makoli and Dontai Gabidon gave the Tigers a two-goal lead at the break, before a Curtis Round own-goal five minutes into the second half made it 3-0.
Quickfire goals from Owen Burns and Mitch Parkinson brought Redcar right back into contention with more than 20 minutes still to play, but Makoli grabbed his second of the afternoon to wrap up an impressive Hyde victory 10 minutes from time.
Redcar's defeat allowed Cleethorpes Town to climb to the NPL Premier Division summit with a 2-0 win at Lancaster City.
Callum Foster headed the Owls in front with nine minutes gone.
It remained 1-0 until the final 15 minutes, when Liam Hughes made sure of the points from the penalty spot.
A run of one defeat in nine league games means Craig Rouse's men return top of the table ahead of their trip to Bury on Tuesday night.
Cleethorpes sit one point above Redcar and two clear of Curzon Ashton, who kept pace at the top after a 1-0 win at Stockton Town.
Jimmy Spencer's 30th-minute header for Curzon was all that separated the sides in the north-east, with Stockton's latest defeat enough to see them drop into the bottom four after results elsewhere over the weekend went against them.
In the race for the top seven, four teams are now tied on 29 points after both Warrington teams collected three points against sides that started the weekend in the play-off positions.
Warrington Town climbed to sixth with an impressive 3-0 win at Avro, whose start to life under Lewis Hardcastle continued to show some early teething problems.
Reece Daly netted a well-worked opener for the Yellows inside the opening 15 minutes, before a second-half brace from Ben Elliott made sure of the points.
Warrington Rylands, meanwhile, scored three goals in 19 first-half minutes to overcome Gainsborough Trinity.
The Holy Blues did net a consolation before half-time, courtesy of Lewis Butroid, but it wasn't enough to prevent them from falling to a rare league defeat on the road - their first in seven matches.
Wins for both the yellow and blue halves of Warrington were enough to see Avro drop out of the top seven on goal difference.
Elsewhere, Ashton United's long wait for a league win came to an end as they collected a 1-0 victory at Workington.
The Robins, who had failed to win any of their previous 12 NPL outings, brought that difficult run to an end courtesy of Enock Lusiama's first-half finish from close range.
Bury were another who picked up a 1-0 win on their travels, getting the better of Bamber Bridge at Irongate.
Louis Isherwood headed home the only goal of the game in first-half injury time, shortly after the Brig had been reduced to 10 men following a straight red card shown to Olly Molloy.
Defeat leaves Bamber Bridge six points from safety, with just two wins to show from their opening 17 league games.
The weekend's action began on Friday night, with Quorn continuing their recent run of form with a 4-0 thrashing of Alfreton Town.
Terell Pennant starred for the Methodists, scoring twice to help his side make it seven games without defeat in the league.
Jesse Friend and Zak Goodson also found themselves on the scoresheet at Farley Way.
Meanwhile, goals in either half from Niall Heaton and Ellis Farrar were enough to see Emley record a 2-1 win at home to Whitby Town.
Stan Hewitt's penalty reduced the arrears 20 minutes from time, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Seasiders from falling to their third straight defeat.
Finally, Leek Town won 3-2 at home to Ilkeston Town, climbing out of the bottom four as a result.
With Leek losing their previous three league games and Ilkeston having secured back-to-back wins, Saturday's game at the F. Ball Community Stadium went against the form book.
The two teams exchanged first-half goals, before Jack Griffiths and Alex Panter gave the Blues a cushion heading into the closing stages.
And although a stunning finish from Sam Newell pulled a goal back, there would be no equaliser for the Robins in Staffordshire.
