NPL round-up | Guiseley suffer setback, Workington on the rise and Lancaster win again on the road
There were plenty of close games in the NPL Premier Division on Tuesday night, with three of the four latest midweek fixtures from Step 3 being separated by just one goal.
Fourth-placed Guiseley, the highest-ranked of all eight sides in action, missed the opportunity to move within a point of top spot, losing 1-0 at Alfreton Town.
The Reds' winner came 10 minutes before half-time, courtesy of Daniel Odunaiya.
His goal was enough to see Jake Buxton's side climb into the top half, whilst also continuing some fine home form in the league which has seen them pick up 12 points from a possible 15 at the Solana Stadium.
One side making strides into the play-off spots were Workington, who defeated Emley 3-1 to pick up their sixth league victory in a row.
A first-half own-goal saw Emley take the lead into the break, as they looked to end their three-game losing run in all competitions.
However, the in-form Luke Hunter responded soon after half-time, taking his tally for the season into double figures across all competitions, before Josh Palmer headed the visitors in front with 53 minutes gone.
The win was sealed in second-half stoppage time, Louis Jacobs finishing off a Workington breakaway to take them up to fifth in the table.
Elsewhere, Harrison Wood's close-range finish was enough to see Warrington Rylands win 1-0 at Ilkeston Town, taking the Blues up to ninth in the table.
Defeat means the Robins have now lost six matches in a row, with Tuesday night's result keeping them in the relegation zone.
The final game of midweek saw Lancaster City come from behind on their travels to defeat Whitby Town 2-1.
Stuart Rose's opener for Whitby midway through the first half was cancelled out by Jim Craig's close-range effort before the half-hour.
The winner came nine minutes after half-time, a superb curling finish from Charlie Bailey securing all three points for Jimmy Marshall's side.
In all competitions, the Dolly Blues have now won four of their five games played on a Tuesday night this season, with their latest success taking them up to 12th in the table.
