NPL round-up | Midweek wins for Guiseley and Avro
Guiseley and Avro strengthened their play-off positions in the NPL Premier Division during the latest midweek action.
Tuesday saw a meeting of third and second in the table respectively as Guiseley hosted a Cleethorpes Town side hoping to make it seven games unbeaten in the league.
The Lions took the lead inside seven minutes when Amir Berchil's cross was turned into his own net by a Cleethorpes defender.
It remained 1-0 until midway through the second half, when Josh Walker equalised for the Owls from the penalty spot.
Less than four minutes later, however, Cam Wilson scored within six minutes of his introduction from the bench, firing home from outside the box to earn Guiseley all three points.
Another of the division's early frontrunners, Avro, ended a run of three straight defeats by defeating Ashton United 3-2 on Wednesday night.
The Ro claimed their first win under new boss Lewis Hardcastle, rising to fourth in the table as a result.
Three goals before the midway stage of the first half saw Avro take control as Harry Salt, James Simms and Darren Ehimamiegho all found themselves on the scoresheet.
Quickfire goals inside the final 15 minutes from Charlie Naylor and Mikey O'Neill threatened a comeback for the Robins, but they proved to be consolations as Avro held on to win.
All four of the teams in midweek action switch their focus to the FA Trophy this coming weekend.
