Prescot Cables land new number one
Prescot Cables have announced the signing of experienced goalkeeper Tony Thompson following his departure from Bootle.
Goalkeeper Thompson, who represented a host of clubs including Altrincham and Warrington Town, made 119 appearances for the Bucks over a two-and-a-half year spell.
A former promotion-winner with several of his former sides, Thompson played a starring role for Bootle during the 2023/24 season, when they reached the NPL West Division play-offs.
He featured regularly last term for the Bucks as they secured a sixth-place, finishing a point outside of the play-offs.
The signing of Thompson represents a major piece of business for a Cables side looking to build again following their relegation from Step 3.
Discussing his new arrival, manager Ste Daley said: "For me, Tony is the best goalkeeper not only in this league, but also the league above.
"We are absolutely delighted to secure a goalkeeper of Tony's calibre for the 2026/27 season."
He becomes the club's third new signing, following on from the arrival of defender Matty Waters - who ended the season with the club - and striker Olly Molloy from Bamber Bridge.
