Prolific forward joins Stafford as recruitment drive continues
Stafford Rangers have completed the signing of forward Darrhyl Mason following his departure from Avro.
Mason joined Avro in January and went on to score an impressive 14 goals in 17 appearances, firing them to promotion via the NPL West Division play-offs.
Prior to his time at the Ro, Mason plied his trade at Wythenshawe, where he forged a name for himself as a prolific scorer, before spending time at Cheadle Town.
On the move, he said: "I'm buzzing to be here. It's a fantastic football club, a big of a sleeping giant in terms of non-league.
"I'd like to say it's not just goals that I bring, but it is [a massive part of my game]. Our objective is to win the league, so if I don't score in a game but we win 3-0, that's all that matters to me.
"This is sort of a catalytic season for this football club, a big year.
“It's a massive opportunity for this football club to kick on, to get back to the levels that it should be at.”
“Darrhyl is a player I’ve admired since he played against us for Wythenshawe a few years back, where he was captain," manager Graham Deakin said.
"I’ve built up a relationship with him during that time, and I think that he was now willing to come here, where as before we couldn’t quite make the move happen..
"I’m absolutely made up to have signed him. He’s quick, strong and leads from the front.
“He was a massive part of why Avro went up with his goals and contribution, and I’m looking forward to seeing him score for the Rangers, as I am sure the fans are too.”
Stafford, who finished 17th in the West Division last season, have already been busy in the transfer market.
Prior to Mason's arrival, they had already signed winger Kyle Sambor from Vauxhall Motors, striker Scott Bakkor - Runcorn Linnets' top scorer last season - midfielder Jordan Barrow from Lower Breck and Chasetown defender Mitch Clarke.
They have also gone on to sign goalkeeper Leon Phillips, who recently left National League side Tamworth.
Last season's top scorer Jack Birch has also agreed terms for the 2026/27 season.
