Reinforcements for Warrington Town as forward joins on season-long loan

He is the son of former Yellows striker Liam Watson, who was sold for a club-record fee to Preston North End back in 1993.

The 25-year-old scored against his new employers for Hednesford when the two met at Keys Park back in August.

He averaged a goal every other game during a four year spell at Southport, having previously come through the ranks at Accrington Stanley, making two Football League appearances for them.

Watson's arrival is a timely one for a struggling Warrington side that find themselves in the relegation zone and have scored just four goals in eight league games.

He goes straight into contention for Saturday’s trip to Stocksbridge Park Steels, with the Yellows returning to league action for the first time in 25 days.

On their new arrival, manager Paul Carden said: “I’ve known Niall a long time. I know a lot about how he is and how he plays and what type of impact we’re hoping that he can give us.

“He’s a threat in-behind, he’ll stretch the game. He’s a goal threat and he looks to sniff goals out and be in the right place at the right time, as he showed against us for Hednesford.

"We’d already enquired about him then and they put him in and he scored against us, which was typical.

“We need to add people to give us that goal threat and the more players we can bring in to give us that and increase our chances and start finishing the chances we’ve been creating.

“We certainly feel Niall can give us a threat from various attacking positions, because he’s versatile.

“There’s a nice little bit of history between his family and the club. It will be nice if he can be as popular and a goalscorer as his dad was, we’ll welcome that all day long.

“We want to get him playing and get him firing and scoring goals, because he’s capable of doing so and he’s done it in the league above.

“We’ve got him until the end of the season which is important as well.

"We’re mindful of the loans we’ve already got. We want players to be here long-term and we’re looking forward to having him.”
