Return of popular documentary 'Making Macclesfield FC' confirmed

Macclesfield have announced the return of hugely popular TV documentary 'Robbie Savage: Making Macclesfield FC'.

The hit show, which first aired on the BBC back in 2021, saw Robbie Savage, now manager of the Silkmen, and local businessman Rob Smethurst build a new club following the liquidation of Macclesfield Town.

The documentary, winner of Best Single Documentary at the 2022 Royal Television Society North West Awards, charted the rise a club which now finds itself within touching distance of promotion to the National League North.

Beaten by Marine in last season's play-off final, Macclesfield have lost just three of their 32 league games this time around, scoring 14 goals more than any other side on the division.

They are 21 points clear of nearest challenges Ashton United with 10 games left to play.

The second series of 'Making Macclesfield FC' will see an hour-long documentary broadcast on the BBC later this year and will feature the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign, in what is Savage's first season in management.

Announcing the news, Macclesfield described the documentary as a "remarkable success", adding: “[The show] continues to attract phenomenal national exposure through iPlayer to this day.”
