Silkmen seal Premier Division title

Silkmen seal Premier Division title

The Northern Premier League congratulates Macclesfield on securing the Northern Premier League title.

In front of a full capacity crowd, the party began on Non-League Day as the title was sealed six weeks early.

A dominant display all season since going top of the table on September 7, a 17-game unbeaten streak has helped Macclesfield open up the current 20-point gap to the teams below.

Part of the title run was helped with turning the Leasing.com Stadium into a fortress, with the Silkmen only dropping five points at home all season (both times during their bank holiday fixtures, Leek Town the only side to take three points back with them).

Danny Elliott leads the goalscoring charts with 29 league goals and a further six in cup competition. In the race for the Premier Division Golden Boot, he is also joined in the top 10 by team-mate D'Mani Mellor, who has scored 16 times in the league so far.

Alongside a run to the third round of the FA Trophy and fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup, Moss Rose will see the trophy return for a fourth time overall, with Macclesfield Town being the inaugural winners back in 1968.

Though the title is claimed, there is still an opportunity for the Silkmen to take the overall points record in the league, with Darlington's 104-point tally, set in 2015/16 - still possible, though they can only afford to lose two matches out of the remaining six.
