Stockton Town make eye-catching first summer signing

Stockton Town have announced the signing of former Hebburn Town captain Amar Purewal.
Purewal ended his five-year association with the Hornets earlier this month, leaving with a record of 82 goals in 178 appearances for the club.
He helped Hebburn to FA Vase glory in May 2021, scoring in their 3-2 victory over Consett at Wembley.
Purewal's 30 goals in 40 appearances also helped fire the club to the NPL East Division title and subsequent promotion to Step 3 during the 2023/24 season.
That was one of two promotions Purewal enjoyed during his time at the club, with further silverware coming in the shape of the Durham Challenge Cup.
Now, he has opted to join a Stockton side that will hope to push on after reaching the play-offs last season, in what was their Step 3 debut.
“Every time he’s played against us he’s caused us problems," manager Michael Dunwell said.
"He’s probably one of very few centre forwards who has won aerial battles against our centre halves. He’s a threat in the air and with the ball at his feet.
"He’s fit, he’s a finisher, he’s simply everything you want in a centre forward.
“He’ll bring a lot of experience as well, helping Josh [Scott], as we played two up front a number of times this year and we’ll be looking to do the same again.
"We’re very pleased that he’s agreed to join. It’s a big signing for us.”
