Striker Dwyer returns to the Robins

Ilkeston Town have completed the signing of former Robin Anthony Dwyer from Rushall Olympic ahead of the new season.

Having represented the club previously during the 2016/17 season, when he was just a teenager, forward Dwyer returns with a wealth of experience under his following spells with Alfreton Town, AFC Telford United, Barwell, Leamington, and most recently Rushall Olympic in the Northern Premier League.

Robins boss Tris Whitman hopes the 29-year-old former Mansfield Town academy product will add an extra layer of quality and know-how to their ranks ahead of the new season, which begins on Saturday 8 August.

“Anthony is a striker we enquired about early on in pre-season,” he said.

“He is someone that adds experience and goals at this level, which we feel is important as we look to finalise the squad before moving into the first game of the season.”

On returning to familiar surroundings, Dwyer said: “I’m really happy to get this over the line. I played here as an 18-year-old and really enjoyed my time at the club.

“A lot has changed since then, and it’s clear the club is moving in the right direction. When I spoke to the gaffer it just felt right, and now I’m here.”
