Talented goalkeeper swaps Emley for Matlock Town

Matlock Town have signed goalkeeper Declan Lambton from NPL East Division promotion rivals Emley for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old shot-stopper joined Emley in 2022 and has been described as the rock upon which the league's best defence was built, making 172 appearances in all competitions for the club.

During his time there, Lambton helped the club reach the play-off final and has kept 21 clean sheets in all competitions this season, one of which came on his Gladiators debut in a 3-0 win at Blyth Town on Saturday.

"We are delighted to get Dec on board," manager Adam Clayton said.

"I've always been an admirer of his, and bringing him in at such a vital time of our season, especially after losing Dylan [Wharton], shows just how ambitious our club is.

"He is a great shot-stopper who is confident, experienced despite his age, and excellent with his feet. Everyone at the club is delighted he's now with us."
