‘The best day in our history’ - Anstey Nomads boss hails “deserved” FA Trophy upset

Anstey Nomads manager Conrad Logan branded their FA Trophy third round victory away at National League side Hartlepool United as “the best day in the club’s history”.

This is only Anstey Nomads’ third FA Trophy campaign, and before this season, they hadn’t made it to the third round.

However, a big 2-1 win in the north-east saw them upset the odds to go one step further and book their spot in the last 32.

The Nomads were good value for their win against a side three divisions higher, hitting the front foot through captain Jordan Annable.

Then, after Anthony Nunez saved a penalty from Pools striker Danny Johnson, Tendai Chitiza doubled the Step 4 side’s advantage seven minutes later.

“This is definitely the best day in our history. It’s unbelievable and what we deserved on the day,” Logan said.

“We started bright and got a goal. That settled us down, [but] you always feel like you need another goal.

“It’s not really a surprise. I believe in the lads. They’re young, fit and enthusiastic footballers. I’m happy that they have done themselves justice.”

Cam Darcy’s goal for Hartlepool five minutes into second-half stoppage time proved a mere consolation as Nomads held out to celebrate a famous win.

After the game, chairman Tony Blanchard was seen doing backflips on the team coach, and his joy was reflected by his side’s manager post-match.

Conrad Logan’s first month-and-a-half as Nomads boss couldn’t have started much better, with his side flying high in the NPL Midlands division and winning November’s Step 4 Manager of the Month award.

And now, they’ve pulled off two FA Trophy shocks against sides at Steps 2 and 1, earning their spot in Monday’s fourth round draw.
