'The best keeper in the division' - Ashton United land new number one

'The best keeper in the division' - Ashton United land new number one

Ashton United have signed goalkeeper Jordan Eastham on a permanent basis following his release from Blackburn Rovers.

Eastham spent much of last season on loan at the Robins, featuring 29 times in all competitions.

He kept five clean sheets during that time and earned several plaudits for his performances, helping the club reach the play-offs for the first time since the 2017/18 campaign.

Last month, it was confirmed that Eastham would not be retained by Championship side Blackburn.

Ashton have since made their move, agreeing terms with someone who manager Steve Cunningham has lauded as the best goalkeeper in the division.

"I'm absolutely delighted that he's committed to us for the new season," the Robins boss said.

"With the focus of really trying to go one step further this year, we needed some who we could not only trust, but someone who is going to be a statement 'keeper for where we want to be.

"There's no doubt that he will go onto bigger and better things.

"But for us, we've signed the best 'keeper in this division, the best 'keeper in the division above, and one of the best goalkeepers in the north-west, in my eyes.

"I said it all last year, and that was also [backed up] by all the other managers last year who picked him in their Team of the Year as one of the top two goalkeepers."
