Uchegbulam moves again as Bury snap up winger
Bury have completed the signing of Matlock Town winger Jesurun Uchegbulam.
It is Uchegbulam’s third move of a somewhat remarkable summer. The 25-year-old arrived at Welsh champions The New Saints (TNS) at the start of June, only to join eighth-tier Matlock Town little over six weeks later. He has now agreed terms with the Shakers, with former club Matlock saying he has expressed a desire to play at a higher level and was “not fully invested” in the club's project.
Starting his career in the AC Milan academy at seven years of age, Uchegbulam continued his footballing rise when he moved to England aged 15.
The Nigerian native signed his first professional contract at Chesterfield Town in July 2022, making 34 appearances before a switch to Rochdale in the National League.
More recently, he has featured for Chelmsford City - scoring and assisting on his FA Cup debut - while also being a key part of Oldham’s promotion back to the EFL via the play-offs in 2025.
“I’m really excited to get Jez in,” Bury boss Anthony Johnson said.
“He is someone we have been well aware of over the last few years. He had a brilliant start to his career at Matlock, got the move to Chesterfield, Oldham and Rochdale - some good clubs - and did really well.
“Over the last 12 months, he’s become a bit nomadic. Moving about a little bit, trying to find a home. That’s what we said to him when we had a conversation with him and his agent this week. He needs a home and to find somewhere he can express the abilities he’s got.
“To add another piece of the jigsaw in what we’ve been lacking is what we’ve been looking for.”
