Vacancies: Independent Director and Club-aligned Director
The Northern Premier League is inviting applications to join its Board of Directors.
The League is seeking to appoint both an Independent Director and a Club-aligned Director, with the successful candidates set to take office following the League’s Annual General Meeting on 20 June 2026.
These appointments form part of the League’s governance reforms following an external governance review conducted in 2024, ensuring compliance with the Sport England Code for Sports Governance. The Northern Premier League is currently in the second year of a three-year programme implementing the changes endorsed by its member clubs.
Independent Director
The League is seeking an Independent Director from a wide range of professional backgrounds who can contribute to the effective governance of the organisation.
Candidates with experience in online business, IT and digital development are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful applicant would oversee the continued development of the League’s digital platform and Hub for NPL clubs, including the League’s in-house resources.
Applicants should be self-motivated and dynamic, with strong management and analytical skills. The League is also keen to hear from candidates with backgrounds in legal, commercial or marketing roles, further strengthening the skillset within the organisation.
The appointment will be for an initial three-year term, with the possibility of extension for a further three years.

Club-aligned Director
The League is also inviting applications for the role of Club-aligned Director.
Priority will be given to applicants who currently serve as chairs, directors or secretaries at Step 4 Northern Premier League clubs, bringing valuable experience of club governance and decision-making.
Candidates should have expertise in one or more areas including club administration, commercial activity, financial management, legal matters, stadium development or community programmes.
While the role is club-aligned, directors are appointed to act in the best interests of the League as a whole rather than representing their individual clubs.
