'We started believing' - Whitby up and running under new boss

Newly-appointed Whitby Town manager Graeme Lee picked up his first win as Seasiders boss on Tuesday night, but he insists his side have a long road ahead of them to turn their fortunes around.

Lee was appointed as the successor to Lee Bullock earlier this month.

Bullock resigned from his position due to health reasons, with Lee named as his replacement less than a week later.

After a goalless draw with Bamber Bridge in his first game in charge, Lee picked up his first three points as Whitby boss after watching his side clinch an impressive 2-1 win at Workington.

Speaking post-match after his side's victory in Cumbria, Lee said: "We started believing... instead of snatching at clearances, [we] took a touch or made a pass. All of a sudden, space was there for us and we created some great opportunities.

"The work ethic throughout the game was fantastic. We probably invited them on far too much in the last 20 minutes, but we dealt with everything bar one long ball.

"I'm really pleased. We've got a good group of lads, and there were some big performances out there."

Tuesday's result lifts the Seasiders up to 13th in the NPL Premier Division table, having ended a run of three league games without victory.

Three of Whitby's next four games come against sides below them in the table, but the newly-appointed Lee insists his players should concentrate on their own performances, rather than worrying about the threat of other sides.

"We know that teams are good in this league, but we need to focus on ourselves at this moment in time," he added.

"It's a building process for us, to get that shape and understanding.

“It's pleasing all over the pitch, what I'm seeing. It's just now [about] getting that belief into them.”
