Whitby Town say goodbye to long-serving goalkeeper

Whitby Town have announced the departure of long-serving goalkeeper Shane Bland.

Bland has turned down the club's offer of a new contract and instead joined Bishop Auckland, who were relegated from the NPL East Division last season.

The club's all-time top appearance-maker, Bland surpassed 500 appearances for Whitby last term having first joined them back in 2013.

Whitby say that Bland was offered a "strong financial deal" which "reflected both his importance to the squad and his consistent performances in recent seasons", but the goalkeeper has decided that his future lies elsewhere.

On the move to Bishop Auckland, Bland said: "It feels brilliant to get it over the line.

"To make those 504 appearances [for Whitby], it was an honour to do it for such a special club.

"It will always be a club close to my heart, but at this moment in time in my career, it was time for a new challenge."
