Widnes win the West
The Northern Premier League congratulates Widnes on securing the Northern Premier League West Division.
Despite the grandstand finish to the season, Widnes led the table since November 9 as part of a seven-match winning streak, and results around the turn of the year against the rest of the top five helped push Michael Ellison's side to the title.
Sean Miller and James Steele finished the season with a combined 30 league goals, and the club also boasted the best defensive record in the division, showing credit to goalkeeper Mark Halstead and backline of Sam Bird, Matty Rain, Niall Battersby and Brendon O'Brien to help produce the push which only saw the side concede 13 goals since the turn of the year.
Widnes were promoted to the Northern Premier League back in 2017/18 as part of the expansion at Step 4, and though a season to forget in the cup competitions, they will be looking forward to their debut in the Premier Division next season.
