Young midfielder makes Morpeth Town switch
Billy Gordon has completed a move to Morpeth Town from fellow north-east side Blyth Spartans.
Gordon, 20, is a former York City academy player who joined the Spartans ahead of their 2023/24 National League North season.
Following their drop from Step 2, Blyth were forced to endure another difficult campaign last season after suffering their second successive relegation in March.
The young midfielder netted five of the Spartans' 38 goals from his 24 appearances, despite missing the second half of the season through injury.
He becomes Morpeth Town's third signing of the summer, after Craig Lynch secured the signatures of Gordon's fellow Blyth Spartans teammate Joel Holvey, and forward Luke James, who returns to Craik Park on a permanent deal after featuring on loan for the Highwaymen last season from South Shields.
On his move to Morpeth for the 2025/26 season, Gordon said: "I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Morpeth, it’s a good group of lads as I know quite a few of them already.
“It’s a fantastic club with plenty of ambition, and hopefully, we can build on the success they had last year. I can’t wait to get started and contribute to the team’s success as much as possible.”
Manager Craig Lynch added: "We are delighted to make Billy our third signing of the season, he has a profile which we have looked for, experienced at the level and also the level above.
"He scored goals last season and probably would have scored more if it wasn’t for his injury, which kept him out of the second part of the season.
“He is another player we believe we can develop and possess attributes which are different to what we already have in the squad.”
