Basford secure new deals for backroom trio

Basford United have announced they have secured three new contracts for management staff.

The new contracts have been signed by first team manager Mark Clifford, assistant manager Liam Hearn, and coach Wayne Scott.

The new contracts mean that all three have penned deals that will run through to May 2023.

Speaking on Basford United's website, Chair and owner of Basford, Chris Munroe said: “I am delighted to offer ‘Cliffy’, Liam and Wayne these deals and I am really enthused.

"Whilst this season has been a tough one, we have shown a good upturn in performances over recent weeks, and I believe strong foundations are in place to build momentum for the remainder of the season and pursue a real run at promotion next year.

"They can now get to work with long term security. With every member of the first team under a contract option, we have never had so much flexibility to assess and plan for next season.

"We will also be very active in recruitment, enhancing the group to get us back amongst the elite of the Northern Premier League, Premier Division.”

First team manager Mark Clifford has been at the role since November when he re-joined the club after a previous stint as Under 21’s manager and assistant manager back in 2015.

He knows he has a tough task on hand ahead of him steadying the ship at a struggling Basford.

The Lions are currently placed 13th in the Northern Premier League and have only won one out of their previous five since the turn of the new year.

They will be looking to improve on their run of form if they are to have any chance of joining the big boys at the top of the league.

Basford’s next fixture is a trip to Radcliffe Borough on Saturday 5th at 3.00pm.

The home side only sit one point behind the Lions who will be doing everything they can to ensure the Boro do not leapfrog them in the table.
