Dunne deal for Chasetown

Former Rochdale defender Joe Dunne has joined Pitching In NPL West Division side Chasetown on a permanent deal.

Dunne made his Rochdale debut in November 2019 and went on to sign his first professional contract with the club the following summer, at the age of 18.

The following season, he joined Stafford Rangers on loan before making a permanent switch to the club following his release from Dale in the summer of 2022.

He has been a regular for the Northern Premier League side this season, making 13 appearances in all competitions after featuring 44 times during his first full season at Rangers.

However, Dunne's registration was cancelled by the club, and Chasetown have been quick to swoop for the services of the talented defender.

He becomes their third signing in the last seven days, with former Hednesford Town man Max Dixon and experienced striker Danny Glover also linking up with the Scholars.

Manager Mark Swann said: “Joe is a young, hungry lad who has a good pedigree despite his age.

"He featured regularly and was very popular at Stafford Rangers, but when we knew of his circumstances, we moved quickly.

"He is a game and combative defender who can play at centre-back or left-back. Joe is a good footballer too, and is comfortable on the ball."
