Duo extend stay with Nantwich Town

Nantwich Town have announced new deals for goalkeeper Ben Garratt and attacking midfielder Kai Evans.

Garratt joined the Dabbers in February and has featured 10 times so far, winning seven of those matches.

The vastly experienced shot-stopper, who boasts EFL experience with Crewe Alexandra and Burton Albion, has kept six clean sheets so far and will now remain at the Swansway Stadium for the next two seasons.

Garratt helped the club to a 10th placed finish in the Pitching In NPL West Division after a final-day 2-1 win at Widnes.

"When you get a chance to sign a player of his calibre, at the age he’s at as well for a goalkeeper, you’ve got to do what you can to make it happen," Nantwich manager Paul Carden said.

"Then, when he’s in the building you’ve got to do what you can to keep him. He’s really enjoyed it: I spoke to him last week and it was a really easy five-minute conversation because of how much he’s enjoyed it, how much he and his family likes the club and how he’s in a really good place all round.

"His performances have been superb and I think he’s really settled in.

"It’s one of those positions that once you have someone who’s reliable like Ben, you can almost forget about them because you know they’re dependable and what their standards and ability levels are, and he’s all of the above.”

Also agreeing a deal to stay with the Dabbers for the 2024/25 season, playmaker Evans hit the ground running during his debut season in Cheshire.

The former Wrexham and Stoke City youngster scored 18 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions and saw five of those efforts nominated in the club's Goal of the Season competition.

"Since Christmas, he’s shown everything that we knew he was," Carden added.

"He’s been consistent with his performances and consistently scoring goals. He’s a threat in every game and he’s only going to get better.

"He understands the importance of his fitness and how he needs to look after himself and that, combined with his undoubted talent, should see him have a strong career in the game.

"Hopefully we can be a good platform for him to establish that.”
